I have made custom furniture for my family, fellow employees and friends since 1977 in my basement workshop. I have recently moved to my new 18' by 26', bright, and more well equipped workshop that is attached to my garage as shown in the above pictures. I personally built the workshop in the Spring of 1997. That Winter I planned out my shop and applied for the necessary building permits.

To help keep the costs of the workshop down I decided to make my own windows. The windows still required over $100 each in material costs. I had never made a window before so I made a prototype out of white Oak. I wanted it to match the existing double hung windows in my home. I made a casement style window with mullions between two panes of glass but with a wide center support to appear as a double hung window from the outside. The two panes of glass with the 1" of air space provides for better insulation and provides a frost free window in our cold Midwest Winters. The prototype turned out very well so I made 6 more windows so that they would be ready to install once the roof was on the shop. I painted and stained the windows that Winter since I knew I would be busy enough doing the rest of the work building the structure. I wanted the windows to look unique from the inside of the shop so that is why you see the curved top window trim.

I recently installed an air purifier and a central dust collection system which makes working in the shop a much more pleasurable and healthy experience.

I have only one complaint - I wish I would have made it 3 feet longer. Oh well, maybe next time.
